Saint Anne

In Traveling Mercies, Anne Lamott says there are really only two prayers.

One is "Help me, help me, help me."

The other is "Thank you, thank you, thank you."

She also speaks often in her work of "speaking nicely to myself."  I would suggest that this, too, is a form of prayer; a nod to the spark of the Divine in all of us.

Today, speak nicely to yourself.  And check in with God.  And listen, too.

I actually teach our kids that there a four prayers: please, thank you, oops, and wow. Intercession, gratitude, request for forgiveness, and awe at God's wonderful world. Must say my starting point was and is Anne Lamott's two prayers...love her and love you!

Thanks, Mibi52. I made a note about your "four prayers":

1. please = intercession
2. thank you = gratitude
3. oops = request for forgiveness
4. wow = awe at God's wonderful world
