Monday Prayer: When I Should Be Happy
God of all times-
I know I should be happy.
There is a new baby, a new job, a new relationship
Spring comes, blooming
Summer hails, warming
Fall eases, tempering
Winter arrives, sparkling...
And, yet, I am in a season of discontent...
My laugh is forced. My energy wanes. My heart is heavy.
How long, O Lord, how long?
Alert me to your Presence and awaken me to your Love.
Float me on the river of your forgiveness and sail me on a sea of mercy and grace.
Let me see myself through your eyes- lovely, created, redeemed, and still under construction.
Bring me into Your Peace.
Bring me into Your Peace.
Bring me Your Peace.
Bring me Your Peace.
Bring Your Peace.
Bring Your Peace.
Bring Peace.
Bring Peace.
Peace.
Peace.
Peace.
Amen.
I know I should be happy.

Monday Poem: A Christmas Hymn
The feast day of your birth resembles you, Lord.
Because it brings joy to all humanity.
Old people and infants alike enjoy your day.
Your day is celebrated from generation to generation.
Kings and emperors my pass away,
And the festivals to commemorate them soon lapse.
But your festival will be remembered till the end of time.
Your day is a means and a pledge of peace.
At your birth heaven and earth were reconciled,
Since you came from heaven to earth on that day
You forgave our sins and wiped away our guilt.
You gave us so many gifts on your birthday:
A treasure chest of spiritual medicines for the sick;
Spiritual light for those that are blind;
The cup of salvation for the thirsty;
The bread of life for the hungry.
In the winter when trees are bare,
You give us the most succulent spiritual fruit.
In the frost when the earth is barren,
You bring new hope to our souls.
In December when seeds are hidden in the soil,
The staff of life springs forth from the virgin womb.
- Ephrem the Syrian (c. 306-373 C.E.)

Monday Prayer: A Confession
Loving, life-giving God, you have spoken to us, and called us to be your disciples.
Too often we allow ourselves to be silenced by those who are indifferent to our insights and our experience.
Forgive us and make us strong to raise our voices in hope.
We allow ourselves to be silenced by our own fear and self-doubt.
Forgive us and make us strong to raise our voices in hope.
We allow ourselves to be silenced by the structures of power which dominate and determine our lives.
Forgive us and make us strong to raise our voices in hope.
By our silence we allow the powers of injustice and death to have the last word.
Forgive us and make us strong to raise our voices in hope.
May we be silent no longer, but raise our voices to share what we have seen and heard.
It is Christ who meets us, calls us by our name, and sends us as his apostles.
Amen.

Monday Prayer: Go, My Children
Go, My children, with My blessing, Never alone.
Waking, sleeping, I am with you; You are My own.
In My love's baptismal river I have made you Mine forever.
Go, My children, with My blessing, You are My own.
Go, My children, sins forgiven, At peace and pure.
Here you learned how much I love you, What I can cure.
Here you heard My dear Son's story
Here you touched Him, saw His glory.
Go, My children, sins forgiven, At peace and pure.
Go, My children, fed and nourished, Closer to Me
Grow in love and love by serving, Joyful and free.
Here My Spirit's power filled you; Here His tender comfort stilled you.
Go, My children, fed and nourished, Joyful and free.
I the Lord will bless and keep you And give you peace
I the Lord will smile upon you and give you peace
I the Lord will be your Father, Savior, Comforter, and Brother.
Go, My Children, I will keep you and give you peace.

Monday Prayer: Possibility
God who knows and loves us...
Grace that is our nourishment and our inheritance...
Love that surrounds and gifts us...
Bring us today more fully into the possible...
Into the potential...
Into the people you have made us to be.
Grace that is our nourishment and our inheritance...
Love that surrounds and gifts us...
Bring us today more fully into the possible...
Into the potential...
Into the people you have made us to be.

Monday Prayer: Peace in the Heart
If there is to be peace in the world,
There must be peace in the nations.
If there is to be peace in the nations,
There must be peace in the cities.
If there is to be peace in the cities,
There must be peace between neighbors.
If there is to be peace between neighbors,
There must be peace in the home.
If there is to be peace in the home,
There must be peace in the heart.

Thursday Prayer
Ferocious God, we fear your peace. We say we want peace, but we confess that war and violence capture our imagination and our spirits. Violate our violence with the transforming power of your love. Wrench us from all hatreds and loves that are the breeding ground of our violence. We cannot will that your peace come, but through the Spirit you make it possible for us to live in your peace. So fire us with that Spirit that the world might be flooded with your reconciling kingdom. Amen.

Thursday Prayer
Eternal wellspring of peace--
May we be drenched with the longing for peace
that we may give ourselves over to peace
until the earth overflows with peace
as living waters overflow the seas.

Blessing Our Cities #4

Today we pray for leaders, for stability, for God-pleasing beauty.
"First of all then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgiving, be made on behalf of all people, for kings and all who are in authority..."
We pray for government leaders and those who are positioned in any place of authority. Grant them great wisdom to lead in ways that are pleasing to you, O Lord. Bring stability and prosperity so that they can bring forth what is truly good for all, and honoring to You.
"...in order that we may lead an unprovoked and quiet life for every kind of practiced devotion, and with a holy beauty. This is good and pleasing to God our Savior. I Timothy 2: 1-3
Bring such enduring stability and thriving prosperity to the land that strong leaders will provide an environment for daily spiritual beauty to flourish. May godly lives be honored. May You, O Lord, be pleased with the daily beauty of our lives. Amen

Blessing Our Cities #3
Peace upon an entire city:
Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you...Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper. Jer. 29:7
God of Peace, we continue our prayer for peace in the cities where we live and serve. Bring a slow, rising tide of peace and grant that longing hearts will find peace in you. May the people of our cities prosper so abundantly that they become a source of wealth and wisdom to other people in this world. Amen

A Prayer For Peace
O God, it is your will to hold both heaven and earth in a single peace. Let the design of your great love shine on the waste of our anger and sorrow, and give peace to your Church, peace among nations, peace in our homes, and peace in our hearts, through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer For Peace
Peace between neighbours,
Peace between kindred,
Peace between lovers,
In love of the King of life.
Peace between person and person,
Peace between wife and husband,
Peace between woman and children,
The peace of Christ above all peace.
Bless, O Christ, my face,
Let my face bless everything;
Bless O Christ mine eye,
Let mine eye bless all it sees. -- Celtic prayer

Peace for Saturday
Steer the ship of my life, good Lord, to your quiet harbour,
where I can be safe from the storms of sin and conflict.
Show me the course I should take.
Renew in me the gift of discernment,
so that I can always see the right direction in which I should go.
And give me the strength and the courage to choose the right course,
even when the sea is rough and the waves are high,
knowing that through enduring hardship and danger in your name
we shall find comfort and peace.
