Lord, teach me to be generous. Teach me to serve you as you deserve; to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labor and not to ask for reward, save that of knowing that I do your will.
Growing up Southern Baptist, and now a minister in the Assemblies of God, contemplative prayer (sadly) was not exactly part of my life. A few years ago I attended my first silent retreat at a Roman Catholic Spirituality Center and learned a little about Ignatius and his spiritual disciplines. I'm finding myself drawn back to studying Ignatius and to practicing lectiodevinaand other kinds of contemplative prayer. Here is a short video adaptation of The Contemplatio, which is found at the the end of Ignatius' Spiritual Disciplines.
