Give Thanks for Life

Give thanks for life, the measure of our days,
mortal, we pass through beauty that decays,
yet sing to God, our hope, our love, our praise,
Alleluia, Alleluia.

Give thanks for those who made their life a light
caught from the Christ flame bursting through the night,
who touched the truth, who burned for what is right,
Alleluia, Alleluia.

And for our own, our living and our dead,
thanks for the love by which our life is fed,
a love not changed by time or death or dread,
Alleluia, Alleluia.

Give thanks for hope, that like the wheat, the grain,
lying in darkness does its life retain,
in resurrection to grow green again.
Alleluia, Alleluia.

I spoke to my best friend today and her small town and the high school where she teaches are reeling from an armed robbery carried out by five students and former students. (Store personnel safe, all apprehended before they hit the state border).

She especially asks prayers for the conversion of Benjamin, the ringleader, a very bright young man with many advantages who has gone down the wrong path--and for his parents to stop enabling him. And for Vanessa, a senior and the older sister of another of the gang, whose graduation is now in doubt because of this and other family traumas. She is being saddled with most of the care of her two smaller siblings as that mom also was arrested for obstruction of justice.

These words are so beautiful. I'm sorry to hear your friend's story and pray that all young people will be touched by the stories of hope we are hearing today.
