Thursday Prayer

Lord, make me taste by love what I taste by knowledge; let me know by love what I know by understanding. I owe you more than my whole self, but I have no more, and by myself I cannot render the whole of it to you. Draw me to you, Lord, in the fullness of love. I am wholly yours by creation; make me all yours, too, in love.

Lord, my heart is before you. I try, but by myself I can do nothing; do what I cannot. Admit me into the inner room of your love. I ask, I seek, I knock. You who made me seek, make me receive; you who gave the seeking, give the finding; you taught the knocking, open to my knock. . .

By you I have desire; by you let me have fulfillment. . . . Let me be filled with your love, rich in your affection, completely held in your care. Take me and possess me, wholly, who with the Father and the Holy Spirit are alone blessed to ages of ages. Amen.

~~Anselm of Canterbury (c. 1033-1109)

My parents (George & Mary Jane) and aunt and uncle (Emily and Oliver) are having a very hard time with age-related illness and injury, with impatience with such, and in Uncle Oliver's case, some dementia (he is 91 after all). Aunt Betty, Dad's sister, is also struggling to manage at 89.

Lord, please help these dear people to rest in You. They have served you long and faithfully in the best ways they could discern. I ask that you convey to them the peace that passes understanding in these days.

Getting old is such a bitch. I'm watching MiL and both my parents try to adapt (or not adapt) and it is SO hard. I'm holding all of these folks in the light.
