Morning Prayer -- African Hymn

The cross is the hope of Christians,
the cross is the resurrection of the dead,
the cross is the way of the lost,
the cross is the savior of the lost,

the cross is the staff of the lame,
the cross is the guide of the blind,
the cross is the strength of the weak,
the cross is the doctor of the sick,

the cross is the aim of the priests,
the cross is the hope of the hopeless,
the cross is the freedom of the slaves,
the cross is the power of the kings,

the cross is the water of the seeds,
the cross is the consolation of the bondmen,
the cross is the source of those who seek water,
the cross is the cloth of the naked.

We thank you, Father, for the cross.

After being a warm, loving, supportive and courageous presence for me in my recent medical scare, Strong Heart is now facing some medical issues of her own.

Tomorrow (Thursday the 15th) she goes in for surgery on her spine. SHe's been suffering incredible pain in her shoulder, with headaches as well as numbness, tingling, and weakness in that arm. The MRI showed that she has herniated discs in her neck, so the neurosurgeon is going to fuse three vertebrae together--this should ease all of her problems, if not solve them completely.

She has been through a lot of surgery recently, and is dreading more. At the same time, she cannot go on with the pain she is in now.

Please, prayers for healing for her, and for courage and strength for both of us; for wisdom and clarity for the surgeon and medical folks.

I don't want to admit it to her, because she is anxious enough, but I am scared myself. I love her so much!

Yeah, especially that prayer for courage.

Many thanks for the prayers--they did indeed avial much. The surgeon found that the discs weren't as herniated as the MRI had indicated, but that one of the bones surs was much larger than the PRI showed.... So surgery took a bit longer than expected, but it went well. Strong Heart now has only pain from the surgery!

She's resting--hope to take her home today or tomorrow.

And now--prayers for her recovery, that the bones grow well and strongly and that she be able to remain as still and quiet for two weeks as she needs to--that will be the difficult part!

THanks and praise for all your prayers!!
