Today we prepare for a time of
penance and simplicity,
a time of
drawing back and saying no,
a time of prayer.
Today we make ready to journey
with you into desert time.
On this day, give us the wisdom
to concentrate with joyful abandon
on the abundance we have been
so freely given,
