Sunday Prayer

Wondrous God, Source of Life, Holy Mystery, hear our prayers. In praise and thanksgiving we gather now in mind, heart and spirit to offer up the blessings and concerns of this day.

God, we thank you for ways in which we encounter you day to day. We thank you when we see your love shining in the smile of a friend, or the sweetness of a baby’s laugh. We praise you when an embrace from a loved one reflects your love for us.

In prayer, in quiet moments captured in the midst of busy days, and in the most unexpected ways – you meet us as we are. We thank you God for these glimpses of holiness and for the sustaining power they bring to the nurture of our faith.

Strengthen us as we seek to live the faith we proclaim, and help us to bring the light of your love into the lives of everyone we meet.

Bless those for whom we have prayed aloud this morning, and those whose cares and trials are close to our hearts.

Be with all who are ill in body, mind and spirit….with the grieving and the dying. Bring strength and peace to those who are struggling with life’s troubles. Grant them the peace and courage that only you can bring, for we ask it in Jesus’ name, who taught us to pray together, singing…

Amen.

How this very prayer mirrors and reflects exactly what my priest, Anne Bartlett+, preached on today...how we can see tranfiguration in those grace moments, in those thin places, in the reflection of sunlight on a raised chalice...O'God, transform me, remake me--moment by moment--in the reflection of Christ that you have ordained me to be...Lord, in Your mercy.

Beautiful prayer.

Please pray for peace and courage in LutheranChik's family circle this week. Fellow Traveler is dealing with a sudden, unexpected situation relating to an executorship, money and ex-in-laws that's necessitated legal assistance and is very stressful for us to handle. And I got a note from my doctor, after a routine follow-up ultrasound for some GYN problems, that I need to follow through with an office appointment that was supposed to be cancelled if the ultrasound were okay. I am telling myself that if this were REALLY serious I would have gotten a phone call, not a form in the mail, and a summons to see the doctor immediately; but I'm starting to feel very anxious.

LC, you and FT are certainly in my prayers. Please keep us posted that we may continue to keep you in prayer--of thanksgiving for health and good outcomes...

This prayer offers me hope that is needed as a reminder God is in 'charge'. We need renewal at every moment of pain, or ill health, or doubt, even in joyfulness.

Doubt urges me to look at things in a new way which so often offers new hope.

Prayers for LC and FT are wending their way to you via the God of love. May all be well.

The waiting and the 'going through' is hard to be sure, know each moment you are upheld by our lover God and all of us.
